Poetry Prompts for June 2025

"In early June the world of leaf and blade and flowers explodes, and every sunset is different." –John Steinbeck

Here we are at the midpoint of the year, which can bring a sense of ease and release or possibly a need to review and revise. However this month finds you, I hope you will take some time to enjoy nature's beauty and write with abandon. If you use any of my poetry prompts for June 2025 and share your poem on social media, please tag me on BlueSky @jenmillerpoetry.bsky.social‬ and/or add a link to this blog post.

  1. Write an ekphrastic poem using William Thomas Smedley's One Day in June for inspiration. https://americanart.si.edu/artwork/one-day-june-22524

  2. June is the traditional month for brides and nuptials in the Northern Hemisphere. Write a poem about a wedding debacle, but do it from a nonhuman point of view, e.g. a bird watching the whole scene, a flower from the bride's bouquet, a church pew, etc.

  3. Write a poem inspired by "Rainy Day in June" by The Kinks. https://youtu.be/fqo-HwKN_Ac?si=0mFOiA7iOApWkaZ3
